The Gelding Express project started as an experiment in the creation of a band purely in the virtual domain. Through the creation of myspace, youtube, and last.fm accounts as well as blogging, the gelding express project was to be a fictional composite based on projections of rock n’ roll fantasy. I named the musician behind the project Johnny Mustang. Later “musicians” January Jones and Cold Capricorn were added. These figures were the face of Gelding Express. |
The purely virtual nature of this project was questioned as Gelding Express began to perform, had a track use in Bruce LaBruce's film Otto; or Up with Dead People, got reviews, and released a self-titled album, Gelding Express no longer was held to the boundaries of my own imagination. I became interested in layering sound into an ambient texture, held together by loops and guitar. . The “fictional” project has manifested in a real practice. |
